Ugh. Convincing the Christian right that people aren't obligated to scrub anything they might find offensive or shocking out of the public sphere is hard enough, and now I've apparently got to watch my left flank for that crap as well.

Why, what a coincidence…

There are some old-school things that I will defend passionately against all reason and dignity.

There's an argument to be made that one can object to the (perceived) self-promotion/astroturf elements without objecting to the homosexuality itself: http://deadspin.com/michael…

If anything, the modern Archie Bunker types are worse than the man himself; he seems kinda harmless compared to the psychos who post on Free Republic and such. I don't know if it's just because they're more isolated and thus more visible or if they've genuinely gotten crazier, but it seems that we have fewer bigots

Well, Tipper's a good example of Democrat =/= left-winger.

It's not only offensive on a bigotry level, but because it's so abjectly bogus. These people should at least have the courage to admit that it's them who are freaked out about two men kissing, and that "the children" either don't care or are much more mature about it than their self-proclaimed defenders.

Personally, if I had to pick, I'd rather have memorable dialogue than realistic dialogue, and a lot of the fictional portrayals that get called out aren't that different from a certain type of over-educated smartassed ravenous consumer of pop culture that I remember from high school. I guess for most people, that

Well, my musical home turf is stuff like 80's prog, 90's new age/electronica and techno, and modern indie pop, so I probably have a broader definition of 'sloppy'.

I can't stand the Pixies. Everyone else seems to talk about what a talented and revolutionary band they were, but to me their music sounds like a sloppy, pointless mess. There's lots of bands in that sort of history-of-indie-cool canon that I resent for being so overrated (Big Star, Pavement) but I can like their

Brave of you. I haven't cleaned that thing out in years.

Reagan, apparently allergic to both liner notes and irony, used Born in the USA as his campaign song in 1984, so all his voters decided that they loved it too.

I think once you get to know the characters, their personalities and quirks and such, the strip really comes alive. Hard for me to say, honestly, because I clicked with it right away.

Again? But I'm tired…Oh alright.

Oh, you…

There's a Weird Al Lyrics thread in waiting a bit further down if you care to join us.

And a few more for the road: Homestar Runner, Calvin and Hobbes, Discworld, FLCL, G.K. Chesterton, Jim Bouton, Edward Gorey, Abarat.

That's because young people are scum.
