The answer is exceedingly simple: it’s us. We can stinkeye the airlines and they do deserve a little bit of it but by and large we as consumers send the message to airlines that we want cheaper tickets at all costs.

And one of the nice features of capitalism is, if you don’t like it, you don’t have to pay for it.
