Most manga characters don’t look japanese at all. It’s the case here, so I don’t understand what’s the big deal here.

Another reason they do that is that if you know you’re in game vs a pro, you may want to cheese because playing normally would end in being stomped (noone can win vs a pro by playing normally, except other pros), so they mostly get cheesy games and that sucks for them.
