Do journalists really hate big trucks, or so they hate asswipes buying big trucks as commuters and rationalizing those purchases by throwing two bags of mulch in the bed once a year? They may not explicitly say that much anymore, but I’m inclined to thing that’s what they hate. That, and since there’s so many of said

I just ate a salad.  I’m scrolling through this article and I see the breadvan.  Now I’m hungry again.  I will never be skinny and it’s all bread’s fault.

Immigrant cars doing the work that American cars refuse to do.

Do you know why the 2 Series is now FWD? BMW once polled its 1 Series owners and MOST of them thought it was already a FWD car (it wasn’t). BMW owners do not care about what’s under the hood.

We’re simply moving the problem to another area

Lol now look who wants to go the way of Cadillac. You either innovate or play catch up and BMW is not a brand that should be playing catch up to anyone.

I’m hesitant to make this about Grand Tour when I’m looking forward to Top Gear again but...

Tesla manages a low floor in their cars with decent range.

False, no crossovers are good.  Wagon for life

I think this a properly bonkers hypercar and totally awesome, and even though I knew of the F1 influence before I never noticed that it has an F1-esque front wing hidden under its front end. Clever little details everywhere, and a total form-follows-function design.

Why do you think Audi owes you a cheap wagon? If you want a “cheap” wagon, look at an Alltrack/Golf. Or an A4 Allroad. The previous A6 Allroad started at 42k in 2001. In 2019 dollars thats ~61k. Not that far off this new Allroad’s MSRP. So despite your outrage, I believe you’re wrong about the price. Just because YOU

But what’s actually happening is automakers are taking it upon themselves to protect their reputation by perhaps holding back their equipment a little bit to ensure reliability and consistent performance, not just the biggest number they can hit.

That whole “Mini’s are too big” argument died out at the turn of the millennium. Do you really expect people to drive around in a 1500lb 10 ft. car when a slow speed bump from a Highlander would total the car? Here’s a 4 star Q7 against a 5 star Fiat 500 for reference:

The growth problem starts with the consumer. Have you looked at all the obese people around you?

Even as large as they are, MINIs are miniscule when parked next to a pickup truck or modern CUV. I certainly don’t have ANY interest in anything smaller than their current cars, and they should probably grow another half size to be Golf sized to be interesting to more people.

It’s really not that much bigger. It’s still a relatively tiny car. I honestly wouldn’t want to drive something that was built with a thin sheet of metal with no thought at all to crash safety as a daily driver. Have you seen how people drive these days?

Not a MINI buyer or really fan myself but I’ll always give them props for keeping a manual in the hands of the people.

Let’s not call the M62 the best evolution, I drive an M62TUB46 daily and even though the cylinder walls are safe, I have to live with the fact that someday it’ll start rattling and that will mean I have to change the timing chain because BMW put plastic guides that eat themselves just for the fun of it.
