I think Hirst just wanted to write drug addicted Ragnar. It's not so much about his downfall as it is showing he has weaknesses. Plus his killing of count Odo proved we can't rely on "History" for the answer to where Vikings is going.

I started playing Dark Souls and let me say these games are vauge on story. But the atmosphere is killer I just liked waking around the undead settlement because of how moody that place is. Although gothic,dark fantasy hits my sweet spot 😊
