I want to buy a NA or NB miata somewhere in Cali or Arizona and then drive it home to NJ. 

I only ask because when I went to buy my current car (2017 Honda Civic Hatchback sport, w/ 6spd) the reactions I would get when I said I would be happy with an automatic (because surprise surprise the manual was hard to find and I needed a new car) were always negative, ALWAYS negative.

As a self proclaimed car enthusiast, is there anything inherently wrong with driving and automatic? I mean they get a lot of hate, and if someone drives one and calls themselves a car enthusiast, I can imagine a lot of people would see a problem.
