Just an FYI, ThirdAmendmentMan was being sarcastic with the “blacks are the real racists” retort, he’s been posting statistics throughout this thread which show that Obama improved the unemployment rate.

They count as “discouraged workers” and the bls attempts to track those people as well. The number of unemployed + discouraged workers is always higher than the reported statistic of unemployed, though both have dropped during Obama’s tenure.

The bls actually tracks this phenomenon through several statistics, those that are actively looking for work but haven’t found it yet, and those that are discouraged and are no longer participating in labor. You can see them (U-1 through U-6) on the BLS webpage here:
