I stopped going to Chipotle after their point-of-sale systems were hacked in 2017 and I found out about it through the freaking media, rather than through Chipotle. My credit card company cancelled my card as a precaution, and getting a new one was a PITA. For Chipotle’s part, they did jack shit for their affected

“Toe the line” vs “Tow the line” would be another one worth adding. I periodically forget which one is correct and have to go look it up.

The reason everyone naturally hears “Sweet dreams are made of these” is because “theserhymes with “disagree” and “seven seas”. “This” does not, unless you slant-rhyme the hell out of it.

Fascinating. Kinda reminds me of Pho, which wouldn’t be out-of-place in New Orleans either, given the large Vietnamese population in Louisiana. But then, they only started migrating en masse after the Vietnam war, and the source article suggests this dish is older than that.

One still-cheap-but-slightly-more-exotic version of the “beans and rice” meal would be something like a bag of Madras lentils, served over a bag of quick rice. Both are quick, microwavable, and shelf-stable. I used to keep a couple packs in my desk at work in case I forgot to bring lunch that day.

Wal-Mart hate is fashionable and, to be sure, Wal-Mart has lots of problems. But I always feel like the Wal-Mart bashing articles have an underlying air of “Don’t shop there where the poors go!” Because yeah, if you live in a small town, there’s a good chance your food options are either Wal-Mart or a gas station. So

Hard pushback, indeed. ATK does frequent tasting panels of spices, and while there’s sometimes a “Good news, they’re all fine” result, very often there’s a clear winner, and the cheapest grocery store brand may be pretty bland.

The warm-water and whizz trick was explained to me many years ago by the sales rep at a Costco doing a Vitamix demo.

Balsamic vinegar is my favorite pairing for fried halloumi cheese.

Would putting the patties on a wire rack on top of the sheet pan eliminate the need to keep “draining” the pan? Because then all of the patties would be insulated from pooling.

Why not ginger syrup, though? I make ginger syrup all the time (basically by making simple syrup and then letting some grated ginger steep in the hot syrup for about an hour before straining it). I can add it to tea, cocktails, or seltzer to make a single serving of ginger ale. The ginger flavor absolutely comes

I have no idea what I’ll do when my Galaxy S10e stops getting security updates from Samsung. It was the last flagship they made to have a headphone jack and an SD card slot. I also love the smaller form factor. Other than the decreasing battery life, it’s basically the perfect phone for me.

On the other hand, if you’re using open tabs as a bookmark manager or an “I’m gonna read this page eventually” reminder, do yourself a favor and just bookmark it. Or add it to Pocket.

I definitely used the broiler more once I realized that many of the recipes I had that were designed for an outdoor grill could be adapted to an indoor broiler (I live in a tiny apartment and any kind of outdoor grill is forbidden).

Bandcamp unfortunately has the worst representation of established artists from the major streaming services. And I completely get why—established artists are under major labels, and major labels are quite happy with their cut, so why give it up willingly to make their wage slaves happy?

Just out of curiosity, what “reviews” were you checking to come up with this list?

I have multiple coffee-making methods (French Press, AeroPress, Hario pour-over), but I’m too sleepy in the morning to properly do a circular precision pour, so the French Press is my go-to for my morning brew. It’s the sweet spot for quality of coffee versus effort put in (drip coffee being maybe a tad easier but

It can be substantially improved without too much additional effort, too. I don’t know why people die on the “three ingredient” hill. It would still be three core ingredients, but adding in some grated/minced garlic, some paprika, or a bit of Dijon mustard makes it taste much better. As does using a blend of cheeses.

I had mine almost ten years ago, before tablets and e-readers became ubiquitous. I really wish I had had one back then.
