For my own collection, sure, EPUB is always preferable (and supported by pretty much everything that’s not Amazon). But in the context of explicitly sharing to another Kindle, MOBI is your best bet, since the Kindle can’t read EPUBs.

I’ve given away books, which I can’t do on Kindle. (Sometimes I thought I was lending a book but it turns out I was giving it away forever. Still worth it.)
