Organic is "overpriced" because it can't hide externalities (shipping, oil, chemicals, environmental damage, etc...) and doesn't get subsidies. Also, farmers try to pay themselves and their workers a wage above $2 a day. I understand buying what you can afford, but let's not go there with calling organic

Some people and groups do refer to themselves as "Gypsies" or even "Egyptians" though, because they are not Sinti or Roma. Others use it as a uniting term for all the travelling and nomadic peoples, since they aren't all Roma but do have common struggles and concerns. So, it isn't neccessarily wrong or racist, but

@Cerridwen: and I'm in BC too. :)

Hey, this is what I do! :)

That's no collard!

Why is pork delicious? Cuz it tastes like people, duh.

Me I'm all over the doctors and the drugs, if I could have been knocked out and presented with my daughter I would have been and I feel no shame about that. It's not about how you give birth, it's about how you raise your child afterwards.

Yeah, I went to the Buffy conference in Tennessee a few years ago. It was fun AND academically rigorous. I highly, highly recommend going to Arkansas if you can.

I love how when TyTy says 'smile with your eyes! Now!', they pan to one girl in the audience who is like "whatever" and just glares with her eyes instead.

I remember some guy actually putting his vehicle in park so that he could jump out, run across the street and hit on me, while I was weeding a garden bed at work. His method: tell me a disgustingly homophobic joke about pansies (the type of flower I was weeding around) and AIDS and wait for me to laugh. I stared him

@kenoma: there's nothing wrong with some of this stuff (though I disagree with you on the vacc stuff..the reason polio isn't a danger here is precisely because of vaccination and herd immunity)...of course having extended families around, sleeping in the same room/bed, whatever is great.

My problem with all these touchy feely breastfeeding til college, attachment parenting trends is that it teaches the child that neither they nor the mom have any autonomy. Mommy's body belongs to (eight year old) baby. Mommy needs to stop everything to cater to the child's needs at any moment.

If you think you need to break a car window in an emerg, just carry around a fragment of a porcelain spark plug. It's how people usually smash windows to rob cars or steal them. True story.

Is anyone seeing an uncanny cross between Tiffany Amber Thiessen (circa Saved by the Bell) with Maria from Coronation street in that ad? Way to speak right to my heart, Hooters.

@ HPgirl: Kitty diet, the run down:

Poor bebeh! Fatties can be cute, but kitteh diabetes and heart attackz aren't.

Seems I hit a nerve. Did you slap your Latina maid today, dumb white bitch?

At my school, our guidance counsellor always turned a blind eye. One girl stole my sweater (this was a mild case of bullying, there was much worse going on) and refused to give it back. For four months. When asked about it, she threatened to beat my friend up if she asked again. But, being connected to the popular

@inflightequipment: dude, you're right about some of the commentary being fucked up and colonial. I don't agree with all your comments on this particular post, but I'm with you on the India issue and also how there's been tons of "OMG '3rd world' is sooo fucked up! Let's buy women to save them!" stories today

Yeah, well, it's a Niqab, not a Burqa, but hey.
