Rebelde itself is a remake, actually. The original is Argentinian. Many telenovelas are in fact remakes and reboots - several Telenovela Classics started out as radioplays in the 60s.

Wait, which one are we talking about? Kerblam! or Kill the Moon? I actually like Kill the Moon!

I haven’t seen the anime, so I’m not comparing it, but yeah, I’m not feeling it. It’s definitely not awful, but for me it kinda fell in a weird uncanny valley of stylization. It’s not stylized enough, but it’s also not realistic enough. YMMV, etc etc.

Yeah, the answer here is that by now Spider-man should be in the public domain.

At the very least, a RTD trainwreck will be interesting and full of his writing personality.

It also changes their dynamic significantly - the Master has always worked by being the Doctor’s equal. But the Doctor being Even More Significant unbalances that.

Kerblam! is right up there with Kill the Moon in terms of writers oblivious to their own message.

Not that Arkane is terribly deft at articulating a nonlethal plot anyway. Several of the “good” options for dealing with enemy leaders in Dishonored were absolutely horrifying when compared to just killing them. One has you kidnap a woman who was practically an innocent bystander and give her to her stalker to

The ending of that What if? is one of my favorite Iron Man and Cap friendship moments in 616 continuity.

Yup. I’ve read a lot of What if? and ‘sudden downer ending’ is kind of their thing. I’m not watching the show but I’m glad they’ve kept that energy!

That’s how it generally goes, yeah, particularly when it comes to cultural matters.

Anna Taylor-Joy’s background isn’t that uncommon among rich Argentinians. Mal que nos pese, they still count.

That’s actually a debate. Places like Cuba, Puerto Rico and República Domicana are obviously part of LatAm but the former Dutch and English colonies are not always included. For some things it makes sense to count them in; for others it really doesn’t (anything related to language, for example).

I respect (and love) how they’re simply doing what they do best. Just perfect pop music.

Really, really sad isn’t grimdark. That insane event was solved with the power of love, literally.

I wouldn’t call Capaldi’s series grimdark at all. The entire point was that being the Doctor meant being kind. Hell, he redeemed the Master!

Kerblam! is the worst episode in the entirety of Doctor Who both Classic and New.

Hm, I don’t think I am the one moving the goalposts. This is the comment I replied to:

EL James was in a canon het-focused fandom (Twilight, where the people writing anybody as gay was very small). They’re a fuckton of those, but I don’t know why is it relevant for the discussion about writing characters as gay men when they’re not gay in canon.

Nor is it always about queer ships. There are entire massive fandoms that ship het relationships. The word shipper came from X-Files!
