Hear me out: Tesla doesn’t need Musk. In fact, given his current status and reputation, one could argue it would be better off without him. In the past, he brought the company good PR as the “new genius savior of the world”, but those days are long gone.
He’s asking for charity after sacrificing his own stake in Tesla on his failure at twitter. He’s asking for a bailout -- ha!
It’s a bluff to get his stockpile of stock back or to use Tesla’s resources instead of his own. Otherwise, he’d just make another company.

I’m only on episode one, but I feel like a Marvel character is visiting the Reservation Dogs town and it’s wild. There is a lot of cast crossover, which is a neat thing. If you haven’t seen Reservation Dogs I highly recommend it.
