I know I’m not the first to say this, but the irony of this “battle” is that indie/art films are doing just fine; and superhero/blockbuster films are doing just fine.  It’s the makers/fans of the mid-budget movie that should be crying foul.  It feels like they have been completely squeezed out of the cinema (although

Yeah I don’t run into any of that. My friends are all late 30s and early 40s, we enjoy watching the shows and movies but don’t have any kind of ‘intense attachment’. It’s definitely the fact that it’s awesome to see characters and stories that I remember fondly(and are actually really well done a lot of times) on the

I have no objection to people enjoying whatever movies they like, etc., but there’s definitely something about intense attachment to the MCU (or DC, or whatever) as an adult that leads to weird conversations.

I think it also boils down to some MCU actors experiencing internalized shame at chasing fame and stability. They (mostly) didn’t start acting with the dream to be an interchangeable cog in a massive corporate machine, and don’t want to be reminded they’ve made that decision. Which makes their insistence that the movie

Isn’t that Goop’s character’s name?

“Peppa Pig crying over Robert Downey Jr. or whatever.”

I don’t think anyone discredits the work that goes into major-studio big-budget superhero movies, some people just don’t respond to the outcome. Just because they employ 500 grips or whatever doesn’t mean I have an emotional response to Peppa Pig crying over Robert Downey Jr. or whatever.

(1) not with THAT attitude you can’t!

Here’s the thing, not every film has to be an “indie art film”. And every art film isn’t good just because it’s indie.

Also, can you imagine if everyone felt their film-egos needed to have this discussion every time the genre films of the past came out, pre-Marvel...?

What alternate reality do you live in

Can we just...not do this every damn time a Marvel movie comes out? No, Marvel movies are not high art. Yes, it’s okay to like them. No, just because they’re popular doesn’t mean they suck. Yes, it’s a shame that all studios are interested in making these days is superhero movies. No, Spider-Man shouldn’t win an Oscar

You know, shit on U2's music all you want. If you’d gone with a “haven’t Ukrainians suffered enough” type of snark, no problem. It’s what this website does. But Bono and Co. have actually saved millions of lives over the years with their human rights advocacy. That’s no exaggeration. So snark over that part of their

You’ll never guess which AV Club writer showed up to write a snotty article about a band who was invited to perform a set raising human-rights awareness in war-torn Kiev.

I’m sure there were a few older subway riders who were thinking, “goddamn buskers, can’t I just go to work in silence?”

Did you really call Michelle Yeoh a housewife? There’s nothing wrong with that but, dude, she owns a laundromat. That’s why she’s being audited. She doesn’t have much time to wife a house because she’s running a business and, yes, trying to keep a family together.

Yeah, but you know, we’re gonna try to make a thing out of this.

Everything’s box office take has increased for six straight weeks, which has NEVER happened before. It doesn’t really need any help at this point.

I’m reading that as just someone saying in a light-hearted, trash-talking tone. Like they’re at a sporting game. Not someone who’s trying to tear down another for the point of being mean spirited and insulting. So this is no big deal to me.

In addition to being better than Doctor Strange at just about Everything, EEAAO beats it at the most important metric of all, the number of butt plug powered fight scenes. I’ve been saying for years that the butt plug count in the MCU has been downright terrible, practically non-existent even, and it’s finally coming
