Genuinely forgot he was part of that OG cast. And other than some bad movies, nothing that I can think of. So I’ll flail and say he’s the exception proving the rule.

This is wholly unsurprising. He’s had an inexplicable pass for years. None of the men from those early years at SNL turned out to be upstanding citizens.
Fair enough, but I think SNL has a pretty 50-50 track record with non-actors. For every Chris Evert, there’s a Nancy Kerrigan.
I think she might have some talent, but it’s not for live comedy TV. I thought her acting was best in the Horny Zookeeper sketch film (where her breaking could be edited out, perhaps). She was also great in the monologue. So maybe there’s something to be said for first-time nerves.
This is a good discussion point, and I didn’t fully articulate my complaint in the review. Many of SNL’s hosts are non-actors, and while some have bombed out, SNL has historically been excellent at shepherding inexperienced people through the process and making sure they come out looking good. (I still remember…
My Best Friends Wedding is a masterpiece if only for Ruppert Everett having the time of his life being the most charming guy ever in that movie.
Typical hyping of stars just because of “what” or “who” they are, not an actual honest critique on what she did here (she can def do other stuff really well, just not this).
Fair! The general idea that this shouldn’t be the first outing for a non-actor is mostly what stuck out, but I agree there is a lot of praise given here to the potential Lizzo has/had as a comedic actor rather than what was shown.
She’s certainly not untalented, but she’s not an actress, and it’s weird to read a review that seems to think the writers failed her when she constantly found sketches so funny she couldn’t keep a straight face.
That was a proper thing to praise her for. Yes, she broke so often it seemed like early-career Pete Davidson, but she recovered extremely well.
Not that seriously, given she didn’t make it through many (any?) without breaking.
Random thoughts:
I guess when the headline says “Lizzo brought her all” it implies that she did bring her all. Apparently her ability to memorize lines was not among the things she brought.
lmao i hope your skull fills with fluid and pops like a zit
I think Kim Kardashian did a much better job. I know they all read cue cards, but the trick is to make you forget they’re reading off cue cards. I didn’t forget once with Lizzo. And I haven’t seen a host break that much in years.
The funniest part was the guy was 27. I don’t mind this as a recurring bit. There’s no real joke but at least the huge, bloated, cast gets to do character work and it doesn’t have the usual SNL problem of not knowing how to end a sketch.
Lizzo and talentless in the same sentence that doesn’t have “is not” between the two...yeah, what a time to be alive, indeed!
AND she's not an actor. Basically playing yourself doesn't make you an actor.
Question: Does Michael have a deep seeded grudge against the writers because Jesus Christ this was harsh to read.
I’ll give Lizzo this: as much as she corpses mid-sketch (which, while reprehensible in a cast member, is pretty adorable in a guest), she can recover from it like an absolute champ.
