@USBman: If only. HP install their own version of Windows Defender on laptops these days and something called the "Easy Setup Core", neither of which can actually be removed by mortal means. This wouldn't be so bad if they didn't have serious security vulnerabilities. Updating their crap to protect my system because

I don't think that SyncToy V2.0 requires .NET, might be worth a shot.

If you're really desperate to get drunk, why not simply down a quart of cheap vodka before leaving the house? Then you have to buy no drinks at the bar at all, completely bypassing the social element of drinking in favour of the drunkeness.

@AD8BC: We use the shipping forecast for the same sort of thing.

He just taped it onto the side?! Well, that's one way of doing it!

I'm not sure they're magnetic, they're just a lump of BCC iron (which is ferromagnetic, but that's not to say the beads are actually magnetised). You ideally want to loop the cable around the bead several times, you can buy clip-on ones for this purpose.

@sumocat: Nope, it determines how many CPUs are in use when Windows has booted. About 60 seconds (~10 to open MSCONFIG and switch to 1 core, 40 seconds to restart, 10 seconds to open CPU Meter) of testing reveals this. As far as I can tell, it has no effect before the Vista Pearl appears and the jingle plays.

@antmilla: My boot times vary between 50 and 35 seconds, even on consecutive boots, so that's not all that convincing an improvement.

This is bunk, I think. They're getting confused because MSCONFIG lets you override the number of CPUs and amount of RAM that are used as boot, and when you first switch those overrides on, they're at 1 CPU and all available memory. They've therefore assumed that Vista is using those settings by default. It does not,

It protects against the kid hitting CTRL+ESC or ALT+TAB, but not ALT+F4? I doubt the kid's going to manage to hit any of those, but why lock out some ways of escaping the program and not others?

In this month's Edge, Nintendo of Europe dismiss extra Wii storage as something only "geeks and otaku" are asking for, and therefore something they do not plan to offer. Given NoE's track record with anticipating their own product launches, this surely means a USB HDD is days away.

I've read reviews elsewhere which say the quality is as good as any other bluetooth headset. Yours is faulty, I guess? Or there's interference.

Looks like he's trying to sneak off with that hippo, to me. Took me a while to spot the camera.

@dalejrfanfreak: Lifehacker. They misread the article and somehow concluded "leaving your console switched on" means "leaving your console on standby".

The PAL limited edition lists the Blu-Ray disk and OST seperately, but it's not clear that it's the same compilation (could be a single CD).

I think a lot of developers confuse realism with drabness. The MGS series has a frequently very dark and gritty visual style, but it's a world of colours. They have a wide pallette of blues, greens, yellows, etc. theming their locations. There wasn't a grey in sight in the REX hangar - it's all shades of REX-green

Isn't this what Run As Admin is for? I don't get the difference.

Ironically the registry was created to cut down on having a big pile of (potentially conflicting) .ini files across the system. It's gotten beyond the joke now though, although if it had a friendlier interface (like a sort of uber-TweakUI) it'd be acceptable.
