You’re overthinking this. “Drain the swamp” is a catchy phrase that plays into the whole Us vs. Them narrative that conservatives love. There is no logic to it. I don’t think they see his nominees as part of “the swamp” because they don’t even really know what “the swamp” is.

Online interactions are just a different form of social interaction. The internet is a new form of communication. There is no such thing as “actual” social interaction. I agree with your basic idea, except that Likes and Stars are not “nothing.” Social interaction and validation is very, very real and even though these online rewards are not tangible… To some people that shit’s like crack.
