That may be true right now. But that’s not the point. If you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, your head is firmly planted in the sand.

I am waiting for the “we apologize to Sam Hinkie” article from our friends here at Deadspin. #trusttgeprocess
Every time you write an article like this and cry “plagiarism” ... even in jest ... where there is none, you strengthen the opposition. It allows them to go, “See ... fake news” and encourage people to ignore anything said about the President, even when it’s true.
So where’s the plagiarism aside from the five words “back to you... the people”?
Deadspin micro-analyzed every Hinkie decision to the point where they were forced to disagree with everything he did.
I don’t think they’re chalking it up as a success necessarily. I am actually in the camp of others who think that it’s not like Hinkie was some mad scientist. I mean, he DID make some really good trades, essentially trading an injured Jrue Holiday for Nerlens Noel, Dario Saric, and a first round pick (Holiday traded…
Yeah, one player who has the ability to be a starter on a championship contender. I wish we could go back in time and go back to the Evan Turner, Thad Young, Lou Williams era where they had a plethora of guys who would start on championship contenders!
Hinkie injured Bynum? When did this happen?
You’re clueless if you think Hinkie spoke the same amount of other GMs, let alone more than others, let alone enough to cost him is job.
Short answer, if anyone other than Hinkie had created this same process, it would now be hailed as genius.
In return they got a guy who will be in the discussion for best player in the league, plus Ben Simmons. But yeah, it would’ve been better to heroically struggle towards the goal of a 35 win season instead.
Never. They’ll just make excuses or deflect responsibility to Coangelo or Brett Brown or just plain luck. These players and draft picks all just materialized out of thin air.
It’s not a revisionist piece when the plan was to be “putrid” for (a couple) years and land a player like Embiid. This is exactly what was intended and to say is to report honestly. If people had spent less time reading Deadspin’s horribly short-sighted critiques of Hinkie and the process, they’d understand this.
Plus two lottery picks* and swap rights with Sacramento in a loaded draft. And Ben Simmons. And the Kings’ 2019 pick. And the Thunder’s 2020 pick. Plus a boatload of a 2nd rounders from teams like the Knicks (has Deadspin ever discussed that successful franchise?). And a clean cap sheet in a rising cap. In five years,…
Don’t worry about Hinkie. Two things have happened to ensure he will get credit. The first is there is no way Sixers fans will ever let the national or local media forget they were wrong. The second is Embiid naming himself “The Process”. He took the term that was used to make fun of Hinkie, the Sixers, and anyone…
Hinkie: “Let’s sit on a potential superstar, taking a massive risk that he can overcome an injury that other teams were scared off by, and deal with the pains of losing for the promise he brings.”
well they have two players 22 and under who they can now build a team around. but yeah, for sure man, 7-10 conference finish as your ceiling is way more ideal.
As a Philly guy, I agree with you. All these blazing hot Hinkie takes miss the point: the guys said: "we are going to suck for a few years, then compete for a title for a decade." That's why Sixers fans knew was coming. No one gives a good damn that they were on a three-year skid.
Because it will have. The Sixers are in an objectively far superior position today than when he took over. And he gave them enough chances at a high pick that they likely will “luck” into a stud. Which means it won’t be luck. that’s the position he put them in.
As a Philly resident who is pretty passionate about baseball and hockey, Hinkie had me interested in the Sixers. I have no interest whatsoever in watching a bunch of retreads and nepotistic dipshits flail aimlessly building a team that might earn the right to get anihilated in five days of the playoffs.
