I think he tried to transition to Rick at some point, but it never took? WE FUCKING KNEW.

Also, we can drop the allegedly. He fucking murdered two people, gleefully. And cops thanked him and offered him some fucking water.
Never, Ever trust an adult that goes by “Ricky”
I have OCD and the first time I ever saw the condition accurately portrayed was when Michael J Fox guest starred on an episode of Scrubs. He doesn’t even have OCD, but just getting an actor who is actually disabled seemed to make the role so much more believable and authentic.
I don’t know why there is tremendous pressure to cast actors to be neurodivergent and none for the writers and directors, the people who have the most power over how the story is told.
Also, ASD is a huge spectrum which presents with many different kinds of communication impairments and RRBIA. A high functioning actor with ASD can’t know what it’s like to have ASD so severe they are completely non-verbal any more than a neurotypical actor can. Some people don’t look any deeper than the label.
YES.
It’s about representation, not whether your identity is a 100% match for the role.
Ok but plenty of other Autistic actors have said they would have loved the opportunity to act the role. And she responded by insulting them.
And to add to that, the motherfucker who bought the gun for him didn’t want to give it to him when he asked for it, but was too much of a fucking pussy because he didn’t want Rittenhouse to “throw a bitch fit.”
See, that is a fair point. I’m an autistic actor myself so I know where you guys are coming from. But I didn’t pick up on that in what Sia was saying. If that’s what she meant, she should’ve been a lot clearer!
Okay but we’ve had a century of people pretending to be disabled on screen and almost universally they woefully bad at it. Everything is told by ableds for ableds and the harm they cause lasts for decades (trust me, we’re still countering the bollocks that is Rainman).
In a perfect world in which actors were considered for roles for nothing but their talent, this would make sense, but that’s sadly not how casting works. An autistic (or trans or disabled or actor of any other traditionally marginalized community) will likely face ENORMOUS barriers in getting work, in getting cast as…
Not sure, but what makes this worse is that she has in multiple interviews said “how’s a good way I can keep her safe is I can keep making projects for her” which is weird and possessive, but also implies that she never intended the role to be for anyone else.
Speaking of that pile of shit Kyle Rittenhouse, I’m surprised no one commented on the exclusive interview the Washington Post got and bragged about.
Why is Sia obsessed with Maddie?
As a pair of autistics with theatre backgrounds, I think you’ve misunderstood Sia - we didn’t take it to mean that autistic actors can’t work, it’s that autistic actors can’t safely be involved in realistic portrayals of trauma they have PTSD about. We both have experienced this in roles and agree with her strongly.

“...we have gone above and beyond to follow CDC and state guidelines regarding Covid-related safety measures.”
This response pushed my buttons, so I rewrote it.
