Starting in 2023, you’ll be able to buy a base model Chevy Bolt EV, with 250+ mile range for $18,100 after federal tax credit (before destination and tax). The era of the affordable EV is upon us.

Fixing US pedestrian protection laws would go a long way in helping this. Giant raised hoods in US trucks/SUVs make people feel powerful but are horrible for pedestrians.  Just adapting the EU’s pedestrian protection standards would change the shape of the giant US truck and probably knock down sales a bunch.

I read that as carbon buildup, perhaps in the exhaust system.

The reason the EV Hummer battery warranty is excluded is because an 8 year 100k mile warranty is required by US law.

I still can’t seem to follow this advice, but put your tools away promptly.

I absolutely loved my 2005 Ford Focus MT, but yeah, I needed to get the shift linkage rebuilt at about 70k miles.  It was not a great transmission.  Clutch and gears lasted the life of the car though.

Today my wife mentioned the one time she had been in an accident. Her Dad had been driving on the freeway, and with a car next to him on both sides, the car to his right started changing lanes into him. “There was nothing he could do” other than lay on his horn and hope the guy stopped moving over.

2023 Leafs still have CHAdeMO, a complete deal breaker. Buying a 2023 leaf would be like buying a betamax VCR in ‘92, or a new DVD player today or a laserdisc player ever.

I think you need to adjust your scale a little bit. My Fiat 500e, which is basically as small as a 4 seat electric car can be, weighs in at 2,980 lbs.  The thing seriously looks like a go kart and only has around an 80 mile range.  I love it, but it's only practical as a second cat.

They aren’t particularly cheap, but it feels like a used Focus RS should make this list.

How incompetent are these cops that they can’t identify the driver of a rented car they have access to? It is seriously the work of like one phone call. Look up the owner by plate/vin, call the owner and ask who rented the Tesla.

I carry jumper cables, so that’s really the only fix I can offer at the side of the road (beyond helping them to push their car out of traffic). I’ve rescued cars with a jump, but I’ve also been told the issue is something else and haven’t gotten out my cables, just wished them good luck.

If only the pin just had a flat head on the other side. No need to have 2 circlips and twice the chance of failure when only one is needed.

See if you can check the metadata on the pictures, there is a chance they were taken beforehand if they are trying to scam you.

I recently tried to rent with Turo for a trip we have coming up. I made it 80% though the process when I hit the hidden fees. $80 service fee for Turo, then another $100 for insurance with huge warnings that my insurance might not cover cars rented through Turo. Every page beforehand implied that insurance was

But I thought we were just supposed to shit on Tesla on this website? /s

It makes me wonder what is more dangerous, systems that forces wheel touching or watches eyes. I can imagine touching the wheel and paying no attention. I can also imagine someone with a big gulp in their left hand and a big mac in their right

Can’t you just test drive the car you ordered before signing the paperwork to buy it? I assume any dealer would be happy to have an example of the latest and greatest to sell if you decide not to sign on the dotted line.

Clearly there needs to be a subscription to keep the back-up camera working.

> There must be a bunch of 500e owners out there in the crowd.

I’m not against this, but I definitely think an easier fix would be to tax capital gains on assets used as loan collateral.  Also, get rid of the capital gains step-up at death.
