Gamestop’s business is solid, they make plenty of money, the issue is appeasing investors and their perceptions. Investors are swayed by narratives and narratives don’t always tell the whole story.

The subsidize the cost of every ride taken, so they lose money every time someone uses their service. If they didn’t spend a dime on anything other than operations they would still be losing money.
It’s a public company now, when it goes down there will be a ripple effect that will felt beyond itself alone. The other issue is that they have been actively trying to supplant public transportation in a number of areas and when they collapse there will be a lot of people left hanging in the process. Not every grocery store carries every product, products can have exclusive distribution deals with retailers, and stores provide optimal product placing in exchange for advertising dollars.
