LeVar Burton is the kind of guy where if he said, “I’m not mad at you, I’m just disappointed,” I’d be emotionally destroyed.

I think its wayyy too soon to be asking for redemption, but I don’t think that the potential for redemption should be thrown out entirely. Actions have consequences and these men should definitely suffer those consequences. However I sincerely would never want to abandon the idea that even the worst of people can

I hate it so fucking much when people say shit like, “I just got back from Africa” like Africa is the size and significance of Baltimore. Its as equally diverse a continent as any other (probably more so) but white folks just bundle it all up like “Yep I just spent a week in Cape Town. I think I know what Africa’s

My best guess is that GRRM has already completed the Winds of Winter but has an agreement with Benioff and Weiss that the book release will not conflict with the show’s finale. So my assumption is that the book will be released shortly after the end of Season 8.

My understanding is that you’re only supposed to put your hand over your heart during the anthem if you’re wearing, and need to remove your hat.

Ever since The Onion joined Kinja, I’m having a harder time distinguishing reality from parody.

Fun fact: the appearance of original ‘94 Zazu was actually based on a young John Oliver.

I think that Max was there to underscore how important El was to the party (mainly Mike) in the year since Season 1. Her ignorance of those events forces the show to re-explain what happened and how Hawkins dealt with it the past year. I also think her and her brother are there to help tackle the recurring them of

I think the wording of the questions on the NPR poll was stupid/misleading. There were probably a bunch of white people who answered “yes, I think white people are discriminated against” because there wasn’t a box that for “...but not nearly as bad as some other folks.” White people have no idea what real

I think its very difficult to give practical advice about women’s clothing and the “male gaze” and have it not come across as victim blaming. Of course dressing provocatively doesn’t give anyone the right to sexually harass that person but there’s definitely some pragmatism in dressing the way you’d like to be

That’s a fair point. I didn’t mean to suggest that the trans community should have a meeting to reach a consensus. And, yes, you’re right that cis men and women have never needed to have discussions about correct pronouns or other language. But from personal experience, much like you’ve said, some people have

That’s an excellent. point. I should have underlined “What I don’t understand..” because, if I’m being completely honest, I don’t understand. I don’t think anyone really can even from within the trans community. I think that the labeling of things can lead to ambiguity; there isn’t a term to adequately describe an

I think its important to temper this discussion with what can reasonably expected of strangers and how they perceive you. There are plenty of people who are sympathetic towards transgendered persons but simply don’t know the right, most delicate language to use when referring to a person. There also doesn’t seem to be

What I don’t understand is how trans-friendly language can be so unprogressive. The problem seems to be the gender roles that some people feel compelled to conform to. Instead of insisting that that your gender is different from your sex, why can’t one say that they’re simply a man who prefers doing certain things

Reverse cowgirl would have been way more practical.

The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a g...wait. This is a perfect example of how one “bad guy with a gun” can cause tremendous damage without the other “good” gun owners being able to do anything to mitigate him.

I hope it wasn’t Jazz flavored

I think that this idea is stupid but I disagree with some of your outrage. I don’t see how using the term “bodega” to cheekily reference that your product is essentially a small store is offensive. It’s just the Spanish word for a small store. If the founders were Latino would it be okay? What if they spoke Spanish

Allergies are bullshit. They serve peanuts on airplanes for chrissakes so I’m not really buying the whole “I have a deadly peanut allergy and if there’s even peanut dust in the air I’ll go into shock” spiel. The pattern I’ve recognized is that only affluent, fussy and generally white people have allergies.

I find it strange that “plus-sized” is almost exclusively applied to women’s clothing. Men’s clothing just keeps going to XXXXXL or they open Big and Tall stores that cater exclusively to larger people. “Fabulously-sized” clothing sounds disingenuous and still puts fat people in a separate category from “normal”
