@john.d.evans.2: There's an angle out there somewhere where you can see one of Conway's tires hit the concrete pylons under the grandstands. Definitely a bullet dodged.

@Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: I remember a few years back IndyCar management said they wouldn't institute a green-white-checker rule because it punishes the team that is leading when the race hits the advertised race dustance and then keeps going. Not sure what Randy Bernard and friends think about it.

@jbanner: Actually, a lot of the concepts for the next-generation IndyCar have incorporated "wheel protection" bodywork extensions to allow for car-to car contact without touching wheels. I have no idea how effective it would be in the real world.

@shmendo: I'm guessing you didn't catch the "ESPN on ABC" coverage of the Indy 500, then. They definitely had enough cameras at the track to catch all the incidents and lead changes, but the directing wasn't so great so most of these things were shown in replays, because while they were happening live coverage was

@duster_uk: I think there's certainly something to be said about motorsports being more exciting when you're not really invested in the series. You can just appreciate the racing for what it is and, for example, be excited by a late race caution and restart that blows the race wide open, while all someone like myself

I just did a solid-to-vented front disc brake conversion on the Benz yesterday (thanks, parts interchagability of W123 and early W126 Mercedes!), and the difference is amazing. I don't even want to imagine what front drum brakes must have been like.

I saw a Harlequin Golf yesterday with a black hood and front fenders. You'd think it'd be easier to get junkyard panels for than a solid-color Golf.

@OA 5599: Carbon-Ceramic Brake Rotors + automotive-illiterate media types = ZOMG $20,000 BRAKE PADS!?!

@CmndrFish: I don't care if it's slower, I'd rather listen to that car's Hemi than the Viper's V10.

@CJinSD: In what universe is a 6-liter twin-turbo V12 that puts out 700 horsepower/ 738 lb-ft of torque considered "a frail little turbo mill"? Because that sounds like a universe I want to live in.

@DeeJayQueue: Police departments wouldn't go broke. Cities and states that use their police forces as revenue generation tools would go broke.

@jbh11126: Not only do I read Jalopnik, I check my e-mail and my Twitter on the toilet. It's 2010, we don't waste time not being "connected" anymore!

The hard work's already done, GM!
