I like to recommend that a family spend a few weekends at the shelter or with a foster to make sure that a dog is right for them. Allergies usually make themselves present right away. It saves a lot of heartache.

Many a rescue has been at intake watching a senior be given up and then the same family walking out with a young pet. I wish city run shelters had more options than to let people do that.

Go to Riverside or Fresno, there is definitely a lot of poor out there. There are towns in the interior of CA where $120K is definitely upper class. However, you can't think that $120K buys you an upper class lifestyle in LA, SB, SLO or Ventura counties.
