I get your argument. What I don’t get about All the Money in the World though is that people who go to see Mark Wahlberg movies are unlikely to go see All the Money in the World just because he’s in it. They could’ve gone with someone cheaper for the same return.

My sister wants to go overseas on our family vacation. I keep telling her no, at least until Trump is no longer president because it’s too embarrassing to admit that I’m from the country that voted him in as president. We went from Obama to Trump.

But you can watch Real Housewives and MTV for the same thing. I say this as an avid viewer of the Housewives franchise and I sat through the entire season if Floribama Shore.

I’m horrible at judging height and weight. But one of the boys in my junior class told me he weighs 220 (he’s over 6 feet tall). There is no way...no way Trump weighs ONLY 19 more pounds than this kid. It’s such a stupid thing to lie about

My first thought was that they were part of the Quiverfull movement. I side eye everyone involved in that

I pulled my intercostal muscles and I swear, I didn’t sneeze for a month. Any time I would take a big breath to sneeze, I think the pain caused my brain to shut that sneeze down. That first sneeze after it healed was sublime. I will never take for granted how good a sneeze feels again.

I love lemon starburst. People who don’t can just leave them all for me.

I bought a used Nissan Stanza when I was a freshman in college and I drove that car for almost 16 years. It was ugly but I drove it into the ground (I drove that car all around this country) until something big went wrong with it. The motor mounts needed replacing and my sister told me to just get a new car because

Agreed. And that lends to further discussion. But so many equate Christianity with good, it’s a nice starting off point because if they do justify it then why did the religious Quakers aid in the abolition movement, etc. etc. But like I noted downthread, most textbooks skim over it.

Our textbooks had little on slavery and called the slave trade the triangular trade or the triangle of trade. When I taught 8th grade history, I always pointed out that what they really meant was slave trade because while they were trading other stuff, they were also buying and selling human beings and that’s not cool.

Really, I think it’s just worded very badly. When I taught U.S. History (albeit to 8th graders) we spent a lot of time on slavery and the realities of slavery and one assignment was how could a nation that was so focused on Christianity also justify slavery and why they were wrong.

Yeah, when the news broke over his payday, I wasn’t shocked but when the news broke that he has co star approval, I was shocked and I don’t know why because it’s a perfect example of this country awarding mediocre white men with a lot of money and perks.

Well, Jay Z is black so his past actions are a reflection of his character and you know your character never changes whereas Wahlberg is white so it was just “boys being boys” and he’s “grown up.” I’m irritated that I have to look at his trash face* all over my timeline and see people defend him.

Oh, it’s for sure code for white.

Honestly, it was the best part of the show and the only reason to watch The Bachelor or The Bachelorette is to have some background on the people on Bachelor in Paradise.

Once two kids were “fighting” with Styrofoam from boxes and creating a huge mess in the hallway. I made them clean it up. One of the parents called ranting and raving because they have janitors for those kinds of things. I guarantee, she voted for Trump.

Given the number of times that people compared Michelle Obama to an ape and were glad that there was going to be a “classy” lady in the White House again, I believe this insult is alive and well.

This! I live in Oklahoma and the state past time seems to be voting against their best interests. But given the state’s current budget crisis and the refusal of Republicans to raise the GPT, there has been a lot of grumbling from the masses.

This is an argument with some in admin and some of the other teachers but I honestly don’t think it’s a battle we will win with this generation. So, instead of banning phones altogether, I let them use it at appropriate times.* When I’m teaching is not an appropriate time, when it’s a class discussion is not an

I have lunch duty and I will watch the kids with their phone one hand and their fork in another.
