You’re absolutely right! The primary concern of theatrical audiences isn’t entertainment, it’s historical accuracy. That’s why “Hamilton” was such a flop—everyone walked in, took one look at all those black people, and turned right around again. Certainly Broadway is wise to avoid that kind of box office disaster!

The most Tony-nominated musical of the year was Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812. It’s based on War and Peace, by Tolstoy, one of the whitest novels/stories in the history of whiteness and stories and white people stories. Like, everything is literally covered in snow most of the time. Natasha is a

Minorities have always been ‘around’. There is no age when America was just made of white people.

“A lot of musicals are set in the olden days when minorities were not really around”

Fixed it for you.

Can’t wait until Trump gets rid of all those pesky regulations at the FDA!

Sure, but regulation killed poison makers’ jobs.

My sister is a long-term anorexic (35 years). The disease will probably kill her, but, more sadly, at this point she has just become the disease. There’s almost nothing left of herself — she’s been reduced to food hoarding, calorie counting, exercising, etc. I have no relationship with her. The last time I saw her,

This was my thought too. I have considered myself to be in remission from my ED for about 4-5 years now and personally I found this trailer to be triggering.

Without seeing this yet, hard to say if it will succeed, for now I have faith in the woman telling the story. I do broadly agree that how it’s portrayed will matter, as will subsequent discussions around that portrayal.

Cool, but as someone who also has a long history of severely disordered eating this seems like it’s going to be a rull fun way for recovered/-ing anorexics to relapse. “To the Bone,” they couldn’t come up with a less melodramatic title?? Jesus.

I’m sure Donald was really concerned about Sasha and Malia’s emotional well being when he was peddling his birther bullshit for eight years.

Number one red flag for literally anybody I ever meet that I know immediately is a horrendous person to deal with, they make a super obvious mistake and then double down hard as FUCK on it, inventing an entire universe in which their mistake wasn’t a mistake just to avoid admitting to a pretty innocuous mistake.

Helicopter parenting is bad and you can’t shelter them from bad stuff in the world too much but I feel like “I don’t want my children interacting with a known serial killer” is a fairly reasonable request?

Just like Trump is a poor man’s interpretation of what a rich man is, she is what a Pinterest Mom interprets as poised and sophisticated.

As we know more about her, her brand looks more and more tacky. Tweeting about champagne popsicles on Memorial Day? Tacky. Photo of herself in a ballgown with her baby-faced huckster of a husband’s hand on her ass? Tacky. Daddy is tacky, Stepmommy is tacky, her ghost-written book is tacky. Setting herself up with an

Apparently “you have weak hands” and “your sign contains a typo” are the pinnacle of insults for the Russians. .

COTD!

The local red cross in the US kills it week after week. I had a friend who lost everything in a fire. Red Cross was there and gave him cab fare and helped him with shoes (flip flops, I believe) since he ran out of the building in his bare feet. They were amazing.
