repub 1: Let me tell you about this woman I know. High school drop out. 4 kids. Lives off the government dollar. Spouse spent time in jail. One of her 4 just got his girlfriend pregnant at age 17.

Most of the Tesla models I currently know about. (...waiting for the Tesla Army to stop firing before I come out from cover...) The Tesla drivetrains are an absolute marvel, but they keep putting them in vehicles that I (and many others) would never own.

The GM Atlas DOHC I-6 was wasted in the GM T360 and should have been used in an RWD car. Instead it died with the platform in 2012.

The Front Fell off

anyone else see this and think “What advantages does this motorcar have over, say, a train. Which I could also afford.”

1978 had some real winners out there, most notably the Chevy Chevette. My parents had one of these turds (in Grimace purple over tan vinyl interior, no less), and while there was never anything inherently wrong with it, we all hated that thing and unaffectionately called it “The Grape Mobile”. There was the burn-your-a

I was born in 1978.  With the exception of the Trans Am, they were all equally the worst.

>And if someone is in such financial trouble, why trade those vehicles in instead of selling them private party?

Then I run another extension cord to it while at work! My plan is flawless!

To be fair, David Putty’s voice is just his own, regular voice.

...that’s why we need to have a livable minimum wage so that the parents can support the family…

My god this is dumb.

Some have even gone as far as to call her a “mini landlord” (more on that later)

Since everyone is rightfully shitting on AutoStopStart, I’ll add that electronic seat adjustment. I don’t need something more complicated than a lever to slide a seat forward or back or to recline the seat back. It’s an unnecessary “solution” to a problem that never existed.

I’ll choose one that might not get mentioned: always-illuminated gauges.

Touch screen interface for car functions. I get that all cars need a screen for the nav, carplay, backup cam. But things like HVAC, Volume, Wipers, Hazzards, AWD mode should NOT require looking at a screen to operate.

So, what you are saying is they should stay away from mountainous regions and tunnels.  The train in Spain rides mainly on the plain?

It’s far more complicated than “it breaks down in x months”. If properly stored in an air tight container, gasoline can last a LONG time. It WILL lose anti-knock characteristics over a short period, months to years, but even after a decade of being properly stored, fuel will still combust and allow an engine to run.

I don’t know about 20 years, but I do know that my 5-gallon can of gas that I use to top off my lawn mower lasts for three or four years before I need to fill it back up.

Also, safety spouts can piss right off.

Same here. A quick blast of Easy Start and it fires right up. I have never had an issue with gas breaking down, even in my old plow truck (gas) which sits for almost a year. It also fires right up. This whole gasoline degradation thing has always seemed to be overblown to me.
