Sure, but it took 30 years for it to become a “massive movement” and many people discount BDS because it isn’t a “massive movement” already.
Calls for boycotts against South Africa started in the 1950s. The movement didn’t get wide international support until the 1980s and Apartheid ended in the 1990s. All during that time, people said it wouldn’t work and Apartheid would never end - many more at the beginning, very few at the end.
So why do they keep trying to pass all these laws against BDS? I mean if they’re trying to combat anti-semitism, I think ceasing to invite alt-right assholes to speak at college campuses might be a better idea.
Russia didn’t terrorize Ukraine, they blew up fewer Syrians than we did, and if there were an organized boycott for gay rights I’m sure she would participate.
Regardless, the moral imperative of not serving apartheid states doesn’t vanish in the face of other imperatives unfulfilled. Shill elsewhere.
Yes, it did on an international level (forget about America). A lot of very famous people - including the world’s top rock stars - refused to play concerts in South Africa, as well (see the song ‘Aint Gonna Play Sun City’). Many ethical businesses pulled their holdings out of the country. Tourism did take a hit. It…
It’s rooted in a similar campaign against South African apartheid.
I hear “Ridiculous Political Considerations” is what they named that new bulldozer which can level a Palestinian house in five minutes flat.
It’s painful when politicians try to make clever pop culture references in their statements.
She’s also willing to put her career on the line by taking a political/moral stance.
That is amazing of Taylor Swift! Katy Perry also does big charity work for kids, UNICEF, AIDS and made huge donations to Planned Parenthood. They both rock but if this spurs them to donate more it’s a competition I endorse!
The boots are THE WORST! And the pic of her laying on the bed doesn’t seem to fit with the others. Love her though. Chasing Liberty is the best.
Banana Republic, huh?
That stylist should be fired!
Nick Carter was accused of rape, not Aaron Carter.
The person who wrote the article just doesn’t seem to care about writing this article with the care it deserves. It’s correct that they found a body, but not the body was assaulted but her. It would be correct to say “the body they found indicated that the victim was assaulted.”
I was more incensed by “the body they found was assaulted.”
Who even THINKS “captured” in the context of what happened here? I come to this site less and less, stupid shit like this is just one of the reasons why.
But before they arrived, two men with baseball bats emerged from a car and began attacking them.
Could we get an edit on that headline and remove the word “captured”? She was a young girl, not an escaped convict or an animal that needed to be picked up somewhere. She was not captured. She was abducted. She was kidnapped and murdered.
