OK, if I wanted a daily driver. Something that was sporty, had decent handling, and made reasonable power. What would I buy from GM? Something to compete against the focus ST, GTI, WRX, etc.....

Thats an interesting strategy. "ya know, that GM car was a dangerous death trap. Why not take a look at another GM car!"
Interesting. I wouldnt expect auto mfgs to have access into the DMV's database. Seems a bit off that the DMV would be willing to share private data about vehicle ownership. But who knows, anythings possible these days.
So now what happens? I have a 2003 vehicle that I am not the original owner. How does GM know I own this vehicle?
I just saw the image, somehow it didnt load the first time. Looks like my alero is recalled
You should see the ignition switch on my 03 oldsmobile alero. All I have to do is tap the keychain and the car shuts off. Hopefully they address this issue. I've seen posts floating around where other people with GM products of that vintage have had similar problems.
Good point. Everytime I saw one, I couldnt figure out what segment it was part of and who their target demographic was.
Was that Nitro supposed to be? A mini suv? A boxy station wagon? A large car? A crossover? I really could never figure out what segment it was supposed to be part of. Same goes for the caliber. Was there an SRT version of it available?
Yes, that is an Alero. The alero was a little bland sure, but overall it wasn't an horrible daily commuter. With the right tires at the 3.4l v6 the car was a reasonable commuter.
Remember the simpsons episode where homer chases after flanders? Maude shouts, "floor it ned!" Flanders replies, "damnit maude, its a geo!!!" HAHAHAHA
Are they paying owners only affected by the cobalt recall? Which recall are they specifically talking about?
I mean in the US. Why dont they bring it to the US? I dont get it.
Have you read "car guys vs bean counters" by Bob Lutz? GREAT book. I really enjoyed it. Some of what he writes about, I see it in my work environment.
I was thinking of something thats a direct competitor to the focus ST, WRX, mazda speed3, etc... GM doesnt have a competitor. The cobalt SS was a good option when it was around.
Traditionally, I've been very loyal to GM. Maybe they haven't been the best cars, but i've found them to be very reliable. This is starting to be a bit much. If its not the ignition, its something else. Just one after another.
Can you imagine if someone did this with a smart car? Imagine a ford raptor and a smart car in the back.
Yea good point. Thats very low mileage. Did you get the recaros? I test drove a 2013 model, really liked the car. It was a trade in, but I felt like they were asking too much. Used with 6k miles, they were asking $25k. I can buy a brand new ST for that much!
Overall, how has the rreliability been on your ST?
He said the revs would drop to 500 then surge up to 1k then shut off when slowing down at a light and shifting into neutral.
These cars were unstoppable. I almost grew up in a 1996 camry le station wagon. It was dark green and had a seat in the trunk. Unfortunately it got totaled in an accident, otherwise, there is no doubt in my mind that it'd still be on the road.
