E46 M3 or E39 M5, hands down. The E39 is reliable, pretty easy to work on, and dynamically brilliant. The E46 M3, for the same reasons. None of the newer stuff ages as well or is anywhere near as DIY friendly. The repair bills on E60 M5s make the E39 M5 look like a Camry. It has to be said though, good E39s & 46s
