Montreal like most of Quebec has always had a fairly strong french/english devide, maybe you were in a french bar because Montreal is the most bi-lingual/english place in Quebec.

That's the thing, because they were starred they had a louder voice to call attention to the issue. Their de-starring was an event and that's what was nessisary to have us talking about them all this time later.
