We forget that characters now thought of as "period" characters, like Holmes, or the Shadow or Nero Wolfe, began as contemporary characters. I don't have much of a problem with bringing Holmes into the present day. I think Arthur Conan Doyle might've liked the chance to do that. (If only because it meant he would…

Why don't they just replace Dejah right away? Because they like to stay in the shadows for the most part. Otherwise they'd just kill and replace every jed and jeddak on Barsoom. They don't want to risk exposure by taking on such public and well-known identities. Matai Shang seems something of an exception because…

GUMP is one of the worst book-to-movie adaptations I've ever seen. They fucking threw the whole book out and just took the names and made up their own parable about how you better do exactly what your mom and the Army and every authority figure in your life tells you to do, and you'll stumble ass-backwards into…

The saddest example of that for me is Richard Jordan, who acted his heart out playing the doomed General Armistead in GETTYSBURG. The scenes of him weeping for having to face his best friend on the battlefield and leading Pickett's Charge are just heartbreaking. His death scene in that may have been the last thing…

I still remember gleefully cackling when Downey poked his head up in PREDATOR 2.

Ed Wood sounds like he's talking about AT WORLD'S END there.

ULTIMATES were alright story-wise, but I really loathe how they jumpstarted the notion of incorporating superheroes into the military-industrial complex. Not just a few here and there, but making that the norm. It's a loathesome and morally repugnant idea to me.

As a superhero movie, it was a pretty good throwback spy movie. I think that the next one should have some X-Men in it, though.

I also hated Hitch's art. Total mismatch for the FF.
