An even bigger problem is that, since this is set in our world and not an alternate TV-universe, the irrelevancy of Newsnight with Will McAvoy will be laid bare as history is not altered one whit by Will's sudden conversion.  He's not going to get any mindblowing moment with an actual politician, just PR spokespeople

The show, through its secondary characters, is trying to convince the audience that McAvoy is some kind of a hero, and rather than demonstrating that it just keeps asserting it directly.  So Skinner was of course offended that anyone would dare suggest that well-known ratings whore Will McAvoy was in fact a ratings
