I think the argument would be if Ghostbusters 2016 is a flop, studio heads will likely walk away saying "Ghostbusters can't make money" vs. "This was a poorly planned and executed idea". The Last Airbender film being terrible doesn't erase the cartoon, but it's failure probably will prevent another Last Airbender…
Michael Bay Transformers/Ninja Turtles is my favorite analogy for this.
The Ghostbusters RPG was oddly decent, considering most tie-in properties like that were and are awful.
Yeah, well, the toy aisle stuff is partially because 37 year olds like me like buy the stuff we wanted AS kids FOR our kids…

As a parent, considering how awful every original story and short based on Frozen is, I'm highly skeptical they can recapture the magic of the original with a sequel.
