And I guess there are a bunch of newspaper clippings of her these days, etc. Maybe they'll do something interesting with this amnesia - maybe the spirits rolled her back to suicidal!Korra from the end of s1, or maybe she's still got all the other Avatarspirits bouncing in her head or something.

It's Varrick's ship.

Ehhh. Arguably the Avatar-verse seems more equal to our eyes because benders are equally as likely to be born female as male. And it's difficult to enforce out-and-out patriarchy if your daughter can flame your head off and if the incarnate Avatar is a woman.

He also looks pretty peeved that Korra is assumed to be dead, probably because he really does need her to open the portals.

Also? I think it's interesting that Mako's one move with the ladies is to promise them his undying love and support when they're at their most vulnerable.

Amnesia… is so not where I was expecting this story to go. I wonder if the reason that Korra airbends as her snap-reaction is to confirm that she's the Avatar, although those Fire Nation Sages seemed to have already worked that out on their own.

It's basically all a big WW2 metaphor, so I've always been baffled by this perspective.

Agree, except there seems to be no other form of government. He's the Head of State because Capitalism.

Not sure any of them are meant to be long-lived (aside from Vulcans maybe) so much as subject to great advances in medical care. I mean, living to 80 now doesn't seem unexpected so projecting outwards on your sci-fi show…

I've always found this episode creepy for just this reason. Whatever it's saying, it's not very nice.

In-canon, I think there are plenty of reasons why Bashir would be depressed. His arc is (as non-spoilery as possible) as a man who goes from naive, bright-eyed, arrogant idealist to having been busted down several chops by life, and becoming broadly cynical about the war and his service. We're just at a very

That sounds exactly like a show I wouldn't watch…

This is an excellent summation of where the series has ended up landing, with the Avatar being more of a bodhiattva than an actual God. (Of course, I say this and we're meeting Avatar Wan next week, so…)

Excellent callback.

It's the one that stands out to me as least faux!Asian. Aside from Rohan, which… I cannot stand.

Right, this. They were living in their training offices on the upper floors of the Pro Bending Arena, and it got blown up last season. So it's a miracle they have possessions at all.

Right, I think the idea behind the United Forces was that the majority of the Fire Nation war machine would get channeled into defense of all the nations, and answer to the council of all nations. So this move to a single Presidency is probably destabilizing in the long run.
