But the Earth's environment naturally changes anyway. Who are we to say our current environment is the "natural" one? And how are human activities any less natural than anything else, considering both we and our tools are products of this planet?

Fair point, but even then their behavior could be indicative of the desire of their electorate. I might be better served by looking at the term obstructionism as a form of check & balance.
