They could be, if shift points were a thing that you could turn off. Like let the CVT do CVT things. Making it behave like an automatic just hurts the whole point of one.

Mostly it was because they were cheaper to buy and more fuel efficient. Now its the same cost wise if not more due to the rarity of them, and automatics are just as efficient now as getting a manual would be.

Im in a heavily red state, my hopes are basically zero Ill have a usable public transit system ever in my lifetime where my residence is located and shall have to continue my drives into the city until I retired in roughly 20ish years.
