I make ok money, but I still picked up a weekend side gig just to put a bigger down payment on my car.  Kinda nice having a 2018 you bought new and only owing about 7k on it at the moment.

no student loans yes. I did have one credit card with a whopping 750.00 limit that i used strictly for gasoline purchases.

Poor friend of mine (literal and figurative) didnt honestly know his interest rate was terrrrrible.  He went to a buy here pay here type lot... and granted his credit wasnt great, but ..... please take a seat for this.... 28% interest rate.  I shit you not.

I think for my age its probably way above the average at 36 which is kind of sad.
