I thought it was a great test of whether or not this show can do standalone episodes with little or no reference to the greater mythology.

For the record, this news show is insanely bad. Local Fox affiliates are bad enough, imagine the CW.

It's a thread like this that reminds me why I love this place.

I thought that since they amped up the product placement to a level never before seen on the show, that they were making a joke relating to the title of the episode and the actual recession itself. Everybody's broke, so let's dial up the product placement to obscene levels.
