i don't know how it is at whatever school you would go to, but my school you can join our FSAE team with any degree. So you might be able to do a degree for something else while still getting your engineering learning on (for free)

there is a cost report that you have to that you get judged on. But that's for the parts that you have on the car. If you spent 30k just designing the intake manifold but it cost 200 in parts, you only have to put 200 down for it.
