I think it was on a previous AV Club story that someone used the analogy of Snickers writing "I CAN get SOME satisfaction" as a clever parody of how Snickers really satisfies and whatnot, and it's hard for me to stop seeing that as being eerily similar to what Goldieblox was doing.

Probably the sane choice, if mildly depressing that it has to come to that sort of thing.

Yeah, wanting not to be associated with commercialism and trying not to have your songs used to sell products seems like the exact opposite of that though?

Wait, wait… there are problems that can't be solved through pure consumerism?

That cliche is sort of balls, honestly. It's a lot easier if you're both in relationships of course, but I've been in plenty of man/woman friendships where it never ended up exploding into a huge deal.

I'm always a huge fan of oversharing right away and wearing all of my feelings on my sleeve, so I just wanted to go ahead and chime in with my two cents as to what I would do with something like this, which is the same as everything else - being somewhat painfully honest.

Lostprophets. I'd never heard of them myself, but they seem to have been a fairly big deal in the UK. I'm just terrible at music, tho.

It's true! The beauty of them is that they really are limited by practically nothing other than your imagination and the amount of work that you want to put into them. No matter what you want to build, it's just a matter of sitting and putting in the work. You can find patterns that will help you build things or

Truly, we are living in a golden age of Internet comedy.

That's actually a fairly good point, and the flipside of that is that if they fail, it'll be used for 30 years in boardrooms as an example of why you can't make engineering toys that girls might appreciate, because it causes you to rip off Beastie Boys songs.

I got it and finished it in like two hours and I kinda want to read it again. Allie Brosh is a fucking genius and I adore everything she's written. Especially the stuff about depression, which hits home and then some.

Couldn't agree more about how ridiculously difficult it is to wrap one's head around. I mean, the fucker straight up admitted to it, it's not like he's trying to hide from it and there's some way that you can doubt whether or not he's guilty of something terrible.

It's about as evil as humanity gets, and it's pretty hard to wrap my head around as well. Were they just sick fucks themselves, or were they so wrapped up in the idea of getting a chance to be around a 'rock star' that they couldn't keep themselves from doing horrifying things just so they could stay in his orbit and

Geez, a guy tries to rape one baby and all of a sudden he's a bad guy.

I'm the Peter Piper of the 1980s.
Got engineering toys for all the ladies.

I'm pretty happy about this one, to be honest. I'm a fairly strident feminist and I'm all for trying to help break down the idea that girls aren't interested in the kinds of toys that lead into STEM education and jobs as a general rule, but everything about this debacle has felt terrifyingly cynical. The complaining

…it's a dirty little war! Three-five-zero-zerooooooo!

Hey, me too! Chumps unite!

Everyone knows we're (AV) Clubbers!
