I could not agree more with you. A little eccentricty is lovely (and really, I think one of the reasons I find Sweden hard to adapt to is that lack of eccentricity..)

No I did not! I apologise on behalf of the entire British Ilses for the aboniation that is JK. (compulsive hate-viewing though..)

I just can't imagine the "GGRRGHHH" kind of thing you have faced. I hate to say thing (I'll get flamed) but I understand. The UK, really is (as it always has been, through the entire history of slavery) the bastion of freedom. I have lived in the deep south and I was really, really shocked.. we had a lovely girl

Can I just give you my British Perspective? Which is that yes, it is so, so easy (and not always really what we want) to give our "real, native" accents up to the greater good (maybe) of the "generic".

See, I'm a Brit and I really like the Southern accents. To us it's not connotated with "dumb" it's more...hmm.. mellifluous? I think a good recent cultural point is that "true detective" accent. It's kind of slow...deliberate, but kind of wise?

I can realy relate to this. I am British, and let me tell you, your accent is just such a part of your identity. I've worked in the US so I have seen the divides there but really, NOTHING is comparable to the british class system.

She's in a state. Not helped by people sending "deepest commiserations" (FFS!) Apparently I'm the only person who called her, said it was lovely to talk to her and told her EVRYTHING WILL BE PRETTY MUCH but not totally OK. It won't be perfect but you will manage. There will be bad times, but there are some amazing

Yeah, that was my plan. She's a researcher, I work in clinical trials. Between us we can reach out to folks who can direct us (my focus used to be oncology and now psychiatric trials, so I'm no use!) So glad you have good insurance, the US is either the best in the world or dreadful, depending on where you fall...I

She'll also have to get a sodding smartphone (she's a high tech scientist and she still has a brick..)

wow! I will pass all this on to her. Right now she's still in "shocked mama in hospital mode" but I will drip feed it. I really appreciate this, thank you.

I had waist length hair, (very, very thick, insanely thick hair. My ponytail was more than I could grasp in one hand. So mucho hair. If you put it up in a ponytail you get a headache hair... ) I'm in no way tough enough to get into the UK combat/military thing. I respect those who do. I had a year of "having

That IS miserable.Becuase really, film should be about the human condition. And, last time I checked, that was (roughly) 50:50.

Alas we are located in Europe (her in Wales (Part of the UK.) And me now in Sweden.) I did look at SCH and oh gosh.. great facility! You are very lucky to be in the US (if you're insured...I guess if you're not insured then..oh I don't even want to think about it..this is why I pay 50% tax, so kids can get this kind

How old are these kiddos? No screens. WHO reccomends zero screenage for under twos...

Thank you SO much for this. Look, me and her are both PhD geneticists, so we can deal with the high level stuff. If you would send me some info on current treatments etc I would be so, so grateful (or links or keywords, I'll do the work.) She's distraught. When we were kids (we are both 35) CF was a nasty death

If her face is on fire, and the drink is of sufficiently low proof to not accelerate it, then yes. Or if she's having a palpitation and your drink has a good proportion of ice, (dive replex, people) yes. Otherwise, no, that's just not very nice.

You guys rule. I have a very close friend and her newborn has just been diagnosed with CF - she's in a state but she says the staff are incredible and that's holding her together. You guys just rock. Carry on doing what you're doing.

Also can I just say I LOVE your username... very Alice. To you, I reccomend Jasper Fforde, and the "Eyre Affair" series. They may amuse you. Silly books for smart people.
