Agreed! This is prestige politics at its absolute worst. That’s happening all the while Russia, a reliable threat, updates its military from decreput to actually fairly capable with quick deployment abilities.

I’m not saying you don’t have a point, and I applaud proper research, but you’re staying on a pretty general level here. Two things I react to:
Ok, I haven’t recognised there’s a new Gripen. The Norwegian process happened maybe 5-6 years ago and back then there was a massive discount for going Swedish. The Gripen was also clearly less capable, but well within reasonable specs. Total operation cost were much lower and the plane was well-proven. Also, the…
C’mon. This is just politics. The Gripen would be enough to fullfil Scandinavian demands, it would cost a wee tiny fraction of the US desaster, and it is deployable right now.
Agreed. I had to check for tweed backgrounds...thought this was 1970's Jalopnik.
The AX is a car that I respect a lot. It’s peak efficiency if you take the early 90s diesel: 3 l/100km mileage was real (78.4 mpg in outlandish measurements), and remained the industry goal for two more decades. Not many cars manage that today either, being so much heavier and more complicated.
You just described every car I’ve owned.
Currently, the Datsun brand is interchangeable with Lada. Which is not necessarily...a good thing.
Rule #3 of puns: If it is so brilliant and advanced that more than 90% of the audience won’t get it, rule #2 does not apply.
You’re building on dry humour here.
Agreed, the small Honda is also great on mpg. But it doesn’t really seat seven grownups for more than short rides; it’s designed as a kid’s car.
I grew up with a single mom, so you might say she had double the impact. When I was a kid my interest was mostly with commercial trucks, you know, the 50 tonne kind. She insisted I rather buy car magazines than truck magazines, “because that’s fun machines, not work machines”. At age 13, that turned me into a solid…
The gif is perfect. Silent (flameless) burnouts.
But Putin is also a scaremongerer who employs extremists to his ends. Look at how he uses his religious bikers, or his violent puppet in Chechenia.
Driven by a labrador and a collie. Serviced by pregnant soccer moms.
Just a little hint: The Danish and Norwegian use the letters ø and Ø, the Swedish on the other hand employ the German ö and Ö. Since the Swedes are sort of the self-elected Über-Scandinavians of today (they wanted to trademark the word “social democracy”), you might have hurt some feelings there.
Gorgeous, and very well-priced. Such a simple design, a four year old couldn’t have created it better. I like it.
