That is not what they were told at all. they were told that is they wanted their app to have in-app sales it had to be on Apple's terms. Nothing about not having a reader app

What is anticompetitive about the app store? It is a curated model but anybody can sell in it provided they abide by the rules. Those rules are in no way anticompetitive.

I don't believe widgets are any more efficient, I guess if you find them aesthetically pleasing OK and if customisation makes you happy, have it.
That comes down to whether you regard a tablet as a personal or shared device. Most makers have chosen the personal route.
