Everything doesn’t need to keep getting more powerful. It’s totally fine that the STi doesn’t. More power doesn’t always mean more fun, since the faster it is the less you really get to use.
A aftermarket shifter on a 996/986 is kind of a must. My C4 came with a Numeric shifter, and it’s brilliant.

Cars are too fast. Okay, so there always the ‘but I want it’ argument against ‘you don’t NEED five hundred horsepower.’ But it’s just stupid. You can’t even responsibly enjoy that on most roads. And even if you can, less power means more time at full throttle.

I’m inclined to agree. I expect an electric NA would just be engaging in a slightly different way. Yeah, driving a manual well is a lot of fun. But so are a lot of other aspects of driving a fun car. You could get real good at trail braking in an electric Miata.
If I recall, it is integrated into the hybrid power train in a way that doesn’t allow for them to be salvaged and used separately.
