I meant she doesn’t have a stake in the sense that it won’t matter much to her either way, not that she has no decision making power.

I can never look at this guy’s name without reading it as Fart’n’hold

I don’t, I just think it was pretty obvious I wasn’t talking about killing J.K. Rowling.

I dunno, you and one other person out of all the people who saw and faved my original comment seem to have misunderstood what I meant, or at the very least realized I wasn’t calling for a fatwa.

It’s a philosophical concept about separating an author from their work. I’m not calling for her to be assassinated

I think you’ve gotta take it on a case by case basis. In her case, she’s not necessarily actively harming anyone, just has stupid politics and is rich enough that she doesn’t really have a stake in who is or isn’t cast in her movies. The cases of Allen and Kazan (especially Allen) come out of altogether different

I’m thinking in terms of a mixture of cultural influence on the modern world. All you gotta look at is her box office receipts, forget about the books, to know that she’s a bigger deal than basically any of those guys (except maybe Seuss?) in the year of our lord 2017.

J.K. Rowling is probably the best argument ever for the death of the author. It’s increasingly clear that she holds herself to none of the ideals she wrote about. That doesn’t make the books bad, it just makes her bad.

We can only hope that the breakdown of a two state solution leads eventually to a one state solution where everyone living between the Jordan and the sea, Jews, Arabs, and everyone else, lives equally.

God I love Dune art. I don’t even like Dune that much apart from the first book but there’s something about the aesthetic it suggests, I could look at the art it’s produced forever.

Oh yeah. I’m a medievalist but not a weapons expert per se, I just though it looked kinda silly to throw something so obviously not aerodynamic.

It is an acceptable alternative to “checkmate.” Other acceptable moments are forking the king and queen/rook with a knight or any discovered check.

What’s your problem exactly?

Halberds really aren’t meant to be thrown...

Tell that to my fingers. There’s at least one that I’m not sure works well enough for me to still play if I wanted to.

Yeah, I mean, that’s sort of what I figured, but I’m not just talking about De Gea. It just seems like catching the ball is an afterthought at the professional level more generally. I figure its because the strikers are better, the ball is coming in faster and with all kinds of spin. It’s one thing for me to say “Well

The degree of difficulty in saving some of those low shots toward the beginning is insane. For a tall guy to not just get down that quick but negotiate the bounces...

I was, but then I was a keeper.
