I don’t want to shrug off everything she does. I like a lot of what she does, I just think we need to be clear-eyed about who we’re holding up as lions of liberalism these days, especially with regard to what we can expect from them when their status as financial elites is threatened.

I never suggested he was perfect either, or even good, only that I think he’s further to the left than Bee with regard to things like his support of unionizing Comedy Central’s workers, etc. I was always uncomfortable with the way he dealt with John McCain too, but it was a different time.

Jon Stewart is an avowed socialist. Which I take to mean someone who can blend liberal cultural ideology with real ideas for economic change, which is where I, as a Marxist, believe that real change (be it racism, misogyny) can really be dealt with at the roots. I don’t see the latter from people like Sam Bee,

I think I’m trying to explain why she isn’t perfect to someone who was tottering on the edge of saying she was. I expect nothing in particular of her. I mean, you’re asking why I expect her to be perfect when the comment I was replying to began “Sam Bee is the fucking best.”

It shouldn’t, necessarily. If you can look past it that’s fine, because it’s not the worst thing in the world. But I can’t, especially as she’s becoming the obvious successor to Jon Stewart in the news satire department. Jon Stewart was so much further to the left it isn’t even funny, so I just have issues with

Is that really the analogy you want to go with? The “But Hillary?” As though maybe, if we hadn’t paid a little more attention to the But Hillary’s earlier on we might have avoided our current mess?

That question mark was serious. I had THOUGHT that sort of thing was the whole idea behind charter schools, which I generally don’t support, or at least that’s the line that I’ve heard put forth. If that’s not what they CLAIM to do, I’d love to be re-educated. If you ask me, fuck ‘em all regardless, fund better

Yeah, I mean, assuming that he isn’t being somehow disingenuous (which I would hope) I can see his point, I guess I just don’t have much time for millionaires who live in cities with massive public transit infrastructures complaining about commutes, you know? I live in the Midwest and have to drive 45 minutes just to

I’m not saying its a 1%er thing, although some of the things they’ve said suggest that, just that it’s kind of scummy no matter who you are. At least in the case of charter schools I thought providing greater access to underprivileged kids was the whole point.

Then why are they talking in terms of how much they paid for their houses rather than how long of a walk it is? I’m not making this up, these are the arguments being put forward here.

It’s moving from like 61st to 77th. Not that much in the grand scheme of Manhattan. And again, when your argument basically boils down to “I spent a ton of money so my kid could go to school near a museum!” I don’t know how much water that holds as opposed to “Hey we can increase the diversity of this school and

Forgot all about that one.

Pretty much. Wish I could see past it and just enjoy her comedy but I can’t.

Basically they send their kids to a school in a VERY wealthy area of Upper West Side Manhattan, and its considered prime real estate because its blocks away from museums, etc. The city wants to move the school, and put it closer to a housing project, which would mean that you’d have a more diverse student body. Her

Counterpoint: she and her husband are doing some pretty fucked up things re: the charter school their kids go to.

I really will never understand the impulse to say that George W. Bush is now the second worst president. Trump hasn’t done anywhere near the damage he has yet. YOU DON’T HAVE TO MISS GEORGE W. BUSH JUST BECAUSE TRUMP IS A GOON

The only time I was ever made to do anything like that while I was there was when I ended up at this really touristey restaurant in Rome. As soon as you walk in the door there’s a centurion waiting and you don’t really have a choice about taking a picture. They offer it to you at the end of the meal for a pretty

I definitely saw these guys in Rome but none of them were particularly pushy as I recall. No more than the guys running the souvenir stands at any rate. Maybe I was there on a good day.

So? Christianity as we know it was largely invented by St. Paul, who claimed that god spoke directly to him after hitting him with lightning. Moses talked to a burning bush. Muhammad claimed to have received the Quran directly from the archangel Gabriel. All religions were founded by weirdos.
