Band of Brothers, my personal favorite. I can’t even hear the theme without tearing up.

The gall to follow all of that up with an accusation of faux outrage is actually impressive.

“Look, of course the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany is seen as somewhat controversial nowadays, but people forget that most of the deaths during WW2 were the result of people defending themselves.”

This type of game has always had a market. I mean, Call of Duty has been peddling xenophobic power fantasies for the last 10 years while making billions. They just had the common sense to veil it behind fictional names.

A lot of UK employees talking crap about a branch they probably have no knowledge of is not impressive...

Thank you for linking these tweets from what appear to be senior leadership in the Austin, Texas studio as well as tweets from CIG employees from Los Angeles and England. That definitely dispels any doubt that the senior leadership of the Austin, Texas studio and elsewhere is to blame.

Texas isn’t as red as people think it is anymore.

I’m sorry, but you just spent 10+ hours watching these films and you think 20 minutes contains too much ending?

This reminds me of the girl in my high school English Literature class who complained that Shakespeare was overrated because his works were full of clichés.

I’ve heard this complaint before. “Everyone just feels like an archetype!” Uh yes, because Tolkien basically invented them, and practically every fantasy author of the 20th century tried to copy-paste in some fashion.

The panicking, completely flabbergasted look of the eye as the tower collapses is also perfect.

The giant flaming eye isn’t much of a character, I’ll freely concede that point. But at the moment when Frodo puts on the ring, it basically goes, “Hey what’s happening over at the volcan-OH S***!” And that will always be gold to me.

I still maintain and will always maintain that Sean Astin absolutely, positively, without question should have gotten a Best Supporting Actor nomination for this movie.

At the time I felt that all those Oscars were for all three movies and they waited for the last one to hand them out. I loved the books since the 1980s and now even 20 years later these movies are still fun to watch.

The theatrical versions are perfect for non-Tolkien fans, the extended versions are perfect for Tolkien fans. I love them all.

Obviously not this movie but Boromirr realizing his mistakes, taking multiple arrows, and still killing as many orcs as possible to try and save the hobbits remains a standout scene. Even among the many Sean Bean death scenes.

The charge of the Rohirrim I think is my favorite scene too. Them all screaming “death” and then the charge sends chills down my spine, and then them scattering and trampling the quickly demoralized orcs is incredibly gratifying

Eowyn’s “I am no man” takes it for me. It’s smaller than some of the other ones, but man, what a delivery. I think the films are better than the books in a few ways, and this is absolutely one of them.

I have to respectfully disagree and say I think Return of the King absolutely is a masterpiece. It hits every beat, it works every moment, it earns everything the previous films set out to do. It has equal parts grandeur moderated with devastation and poignancy and heartbreak. Somewhere between Pippin’s song

My family has a tradition of watching these movies every Christmas, and slowly Theoden has become favorite character. His death in this movie gets me every time. “I go to my fathers, in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed.” Every fucking time.
