no, what i mean is the external harddrive(portable or not) you buy is typically lower spec(slower) than those internal harddrive(the one sold without case) that is designed for puting inside a computer and run as primary drive.

its not lag, just slower transfer rate. portable hdd(2.5 inch) is typically slower(5400rpm) than their normal 3.5 inch 7200rmp counter part. they both also typically built with lower quality(slower) than internal harddrive
