I'm getting really sick of articles saying that smartphones are taking away from portable game sales, because they're not. The 3DS hasn't sold as many units as the DS, but the DS didn't exactly hit 154mil units overnight. It took 9 years to get there. The 3DS is at 34mil after about 2 years. Sales have even been

Casuals =! The Future of Gaming

Talking shit about the man who made video games that they are today takes some real balls. Unfortunately, it just makes him look like an asshole, and also makes EA look even worse than they already do.

One thing that definitely needs to happen is the major publishers have to stop trying to put console experiences onto these mobile devices. What I mean is the screen is also the primary control input on these devices, yeah? So who the hell thinks it is a good idea to make a game where your thumbs are both blocking

"Customers today... are generally looking for a single fabric of play. They want their game where they want it, when they want it, and at a price they can defend to other people."

Can you feel the love within the Unprecedented Partnership between the two companies?

Yeah come back in about two weeks and lets see how well Nintendo does what it does best and print money. How can you defend a 99 cent or free game with microtransactions that plays like a 99 cent game? GTA made a billion and will make much more. EA tool speaking EA Toolspeak.

Jobs, while a genius in his own right, has nothing on Miyamoto and game design. Yeah, mobile games make truckloads of money, but the quality isn't there. I can't even play 95% of iOS games due to the imprecise controls.

"At a price they can defend to other people."

I don't like how he feels that it has to be Apple vs. Nintendo, and not the fact that the two can coexist, even if they are seemingly oppositional. People will argue which is more influential all day, but the truth is they both have dedicated camps.

Coming from EA...literally the least innovative company in the industry that puts out re-hash after re-hash while sticking a new number on the end of the title....this means absolutely nothing.

Well, it looks like the EA/Nintendo feud is still alive and well. As for the 'price they can defend to other people' comment, can this guy really defend the fact that I paid $59.99 for the latest iteration of EA's NHL series despite the fact that the differences between it and its predecessor are basically cosmetic?

I'm sorry, no. even if Nintendo is struggling, iphone/pad games have yet to impress me at all and pure touch screen input is still awful.

Sorry, Mr. Hilleman, but I'll take any Mario game over Angry Birds any day. There are gaming experiences that just can't be done on a touch screen.

Funny, and i thought it was apple going after the mobile market that Nintendo dominates, Silly me.

"touchscreen legacy left behind by iconic Apple leader Steve Jobs"?

Didn't Nintendo start the touch-screen gaming idea in the mainstream world with the Nintendo DS?

I mean yeah, it was utilized differently, but still. Miyamoto knows what he's doing.

Seems to me that someone speaking at D.I.C.E. should know the basic difference between game business and game design.

Yeah, no. You can say that Apple is more successful than Nintendo right now and all, but Miyamoto is still by far the most influential figure when it comes to the history of video games.

Not sure what he's saying, like at all. Steve Jobs doesn't design games, and as far as I know, Miyamoto doesn't design hardware (though I'm sure he has tons of input). But, you could say that the DS is what introduced touch screens to the "young gamer" masses.
