@drongch: I think I've wiped the XBMC idea out of my head lol. She's on WinXP, her laptop has no video out, and while she can use her pc well enough for things she needs to do for work/pictures and such, she still gets a little confused. We're currently working on reorganizing her stuff and she wanted to "move her

@Reese: Would love it! :)

First they took away my Evernote access. Now it looks like they've taken away my Friday Lifehacker access :( What a bummer!

@d3c509b aka Steve: and Yorkshire tea is the best black tea. Best served with milk and honey.

@drongch: After looking at the WD product, I'm re-considering the Revo idea. Wondering if she could handle a Revo with XBMC Live...?

I use an over-the-door shoe organizer for this, and then I can sort by date, too. [www.amazon.com]

@Reese: This sounds like something I can check out as I have a wii rotting in a corner somewhere ;) and it might have all the requirements I can think of so far (wireless, dvd, usb, smb). I'm just worried that the interface might be a little crazy (as the word "homebrew" implies).

@drongch: There is a little part of me that is thinking that a Revo might be the way to go...I'm just worried that it might confuse her, and add too much maintenance for me :/

@PrairieMoon: Can I borrow it for a day without having to shovel it? :)

@ez10: Very interesting, but I guess I'm thinking in reverse: A media player that the external hard drive can connect to (physically) which can be accessed from a PC over the network. I don't want to make her dependent on having the desktop on, and while she's ok with basic computer concepts, I don't want to push my

@sweetmonkey: Sunset Magazine for gardening (they have books, too). Although gardening in SF is very, very area-specific (each area has its own microclimate), so you might wait until you figure out where you'll be living.

@Flail: OMG, I miss snow :( Chocolate and schnapps sounds so good!

Is there such a thing as a "Grandma-friendly" networked media player?

@dhuff: I usually buy the looseleaf Yorkshire Gold (and sometimes red, for a bigger pick-me up). [www.amazon.com]

Waze (WinMo 6.5 but available for pretty much everyone) gets my vote. PacMan lives!

@shazaam42: I've resorted to just using email to communicate with Evernote from work. Your Evernote Email is burried somewhere in settings. If you put @ plus the notebook name in the subject of the email, you can even route the note to the proper notebook. Then I use my WinMo phone to look up whatever I need to

@NumbersGuy: I bought this (Classmate PC) so that I could act like I'm 9 and still have a netbook to play with: [www.ctlcorp.com]

@mchex: currently using A Small Orange and Nearly Free Speech with great success. Discovered them through LH :)
